KiteGirl story

After Claudia Nygard was introduced to kiteboarding in 1999 in the Columbia River Gorge, she decided to found KiteGirl® and introduce more women to this amazing new sport.

Her KiteGirl Klinics, women specific kiteboarding demos and clinics started regionally in the Pacific Northwest in the fall of 1999.

The clinics were so successful that after requests from women nationwide, she kicked off the first KiteGirl Klinic Tour in Corpus Christi, Texas on February 23rd 2002.

For the next 3 years, KiteGirl toured over 40 different kiting locations across the United States and taught more than 1200 women the basics of kiteboarding.

Claudia became the first female Instructor Examiner for PASA in September of 2002, enabling her to share her unique teaching method with other instructors.

With her move to Hatteras Island, KiteGirl continues to offer women the opportunity to learn kiteboarding in a supportive and empowering atmosphere.

KiteGirl is about creating community especially among female kiters, preserving riding spots and helping each other perpetuate the lifelong sense of adventure and camaraderie that comes from participating in this sport.
